Having problems configuring your microphone? Can't hear yourself while recording a test video? Not to worry. Below are some tips that will help resolve this issue:
1. Make sure you have an un-muted working microphone
You can test your mic recording your voice using Windows Sound Recorder or by going into the Sound Settings in MacOS.
We recommend to use a headset with a built-in microphone, for better sound quality during your asynchronous interview. Also, make sure that your Volume bar is adjusted to the optimal value.
2. Close all applications
Close all applications that might be using your microphone or webcam (eg. FaceTime, PhotoBooth, Skype, Youtube, Gmail, etc.).
3. Try configuring your equipment again:
Access your video interview and follow the instructions onscreen.
In the Setup Phase page, click on "Yes" if you are able to see yourself, you will then be presented the Microphone Setup:
Select a working microphone and speak into it; you should see a bar moving from green to red.
If you don’t see activity in any detected microphone please right click on the video component and select "Settings..."
- Click on the microphone icon.
- For every microphone in the drop down list, make sure the Record Volume bar is at least 50% (you might hear some feedback while doing this, don't worry, this will go away as soon as you complete the next step).
IMPORTANT NOTE: In Windows Stereo Mix is not a microphone. It is an input for recording computer playback not your voice. Please don't select it.
Click close and try again.
Adjust the volume until you reach the minimum bar while speaking normally. If you don't reach the minimum bar the Setup Video button will not activate and you will not be able to continue:
- Too Low
- Too High
Click on Setup Video to continue.
4. Switch your web browser
If you continue experiencing audio issues try updating your browser or using one of these for optimal results:

If everything above fails or you don't have access to a webcam/microphone you can always use our mobile apps to answer your interview. We currently support iOS and Android devices**
*Some organizations might not support mobile applications.
