Look at the camera at all times.
Eye contact is key in any interview. By looking in the camera you establish a connection with your interviewer! Make sure not to stare at the clock while answering the questions, it might make you nervous causing you to loose concentration. Focus on your answer and relax! You will see it’s easier than you think!
Take advantage of the practice questions to ease your anxiety.
Even if this isn’t your first video interview take advantage of this time. Practice questions give you an idea of how the process of video interviewing works. The company does not have access to the answers you give, so relax and try as many as you need.
Wear what you normally would wear to an interview.
We suggest you wear what you would choose for an in person interview with the company. Business attire is strongly recommended.
The right environment matters.
We suggest three basic tips for setting up the perfect video interview environment:
- Choose a well-lit place. Make sure to see how you look when you set up the camera. The way you look is the way the recruiter is going to see you so make sure it’s not too shiny or too dark.
- Lose the noise. If you don’t have headphones, just make sure there is as little noise as possible. We want the recruiter to hear you and your answers correctly, not the dishwasher running in the background.
- Get comfortable and avoid distractions. Make sure your environment is comfortable and that you are able to answer the questions without any distractions. This is your time to shine!
Before you start your video interview, review your instructions page going over everything you need to know. If you are completing a pre-recorded interview and you don’t have time to complete it right away, don’t worry; your interview hasn’t started yet, you can come back when it’s convenient for you. Just keep in mind that the interview may have a deadline. And remember, once you start the interview you cannot pause it or stop it. So, be prepared and be ready to shine!
